Lewisham & Bow Wharf, welcome to Soho

If you’re a former Fitness First member of either of our newly acquired gyms, you’re bound to have a few questions. Which is good, as we wouldn’t want these carefully crafted answers going to waste…

Are you taking over Fitness First?

No, just two of their venues – Grove Road, near Victoria Park, and on the High Street in Lewisham.

So what does that mean for my Fitness First membership?

Everyone who was a ‘home’ member at either Bow or Lewisham will automatically be transferred to Soho Gyms during October. If you weren’t a ‘home’ member but would like to keep using the Bow or Lewisham gym, we’d love to have you – you just need to join Soho Gyms.

Do I need to do anything?

If you were a ‘home’ member, then no, not a thing – you’ll receive a letter confirming that Ovalhouse Limited, trading as Soho Gyms, will be collecting your direct debit from 1st November onwards.

All other Bow or Lewisham users will need to join Soho. Normally this would involve a Soho Start-up fee of £39.95, but flash us your Fitness First membership card and we’ll waive this fee. Not only that, but we’ll honour your current membership rate for the rest of 2012.

What will my direct debit amount be?

Throughout 2012 there’ll be no change to what you were paying for Fitness First membership – unless you were paying more than our new published rate of £49.95, in which case we’ll automatically reduce your payments to match this from 1st November.

What membership options will I have with Soho in future?

We’ve got something to suit all needs and budgets – from all-hours access at all eight of our venues, to off-peak membership if you prefer working out during the day, or our new weekend membership if you’re strapped for workout time during the week.

For committed types, we offer a fixed period membership of 12 months for the price of 10. And as firm supporters of all things flexible, we also have a range of pay-as-you-go options – from 1-day passes, all the way up to 6-month stays.

What makes Soho Gyms different?

How long have you got? In a nutshell, our expertise: we get serious results; we select only the best equipment and classes; and we attract London’s finest Personal Trainers – we even train the fitness professionals of the future, at our Soho Academy.

And then there’s our service and Soho atmosphere. We’re no Fitness First or Virgin Active – we’re a niche, London-based company that looks after its members very, very well. If you can find a friendlier gym in London, we’ll eat our gym towels.

What now for the Bow and Lewisham gyms?

Now the real work begins – making sure it’s business as usual at both sites while we give them the full Soho treatment.

Throughout October we’ll be cleaning the gyms and fine tuning any and all maintenance issues, transferring existing member data and issuing new Soho membership cards, evaluating equipment needs and gym layouts, and refurbishing the locker systems.

After that, we’ll be unveiling plans for each site’s rebranding and refurbishment – so keep an eye out for further details!

Where are your gyms?

No prizes for guessing that Soho Gyms first started in Soho (well, Covent Garden to be exact, but ‘Covent Garden Gyms’ just didn’t have the same ring to it). Then came new clubs in Earls Court, Camden, Clapham, Borough and Waterloo. And now we’re in Bow Wharf and Lewisham too.
