Small Group Training [SGT] Course

Course Aims:

To equip the learners with the skills and confidence required to deliver, safe, effective and enjoyable SGT sessions to different member groups.


Course Outcomes:

By the end of the course the learner will be able to:

  1. Recognise the difference between
  2. a. Circuit Training
    b. PT Session
    c. Small Group Training

  3. Identify safe and effective session structure for a SGT class
  4. Identify & demonstrate the teaching skills required to deliver a safe and effective SGT session
  5. Recognise the factors that contribute to planning & delivering an effective SGT session:
  6. a. Session content
    b. Session intensity
    c. Exercises choice & order
    d. Exercise progressions and regressions

  7. Recognise different approaches to teaching SGT sessions

Pre-requisites:

The student must hold or be working towards The Certificate in Fitness Instructing L2.


Learner / Tutor ratio:

10 to 1.


Delivery Method:

Face to Face.


The Assessment:

The student will be assessed teaching a 10-minute SGT session to a group of between 3 and 4 individuals (see assessment checklist).
The assessment will be carried out in a continued assessment manner across the day.


All criteria across all components of the session must be achieved to receive an overall pass.
